LBR Staff Writer Published 21 October 2015

Ridgemont Equity Partners has acquired US-based Unishippers Global Logistics, a third party logistics services provider to small and medium-sized businesses.

Financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed.

Established in 1987, Unishippers provides small package and heavy freight services, comprising less than truckload, full truckload and air freight, through its 300 franchise locations and affiliates across the US.

Based in Salt Lake City of Utah, the firm collaborates with around 30 regional and national shipping carriers such as UPS, YRC Freight, Estes, Saia and UPS Freight, to offer full suite of shipping services to business owners and operators.

With around 50,000 shipping customers, the firm reported revenue of around $420m in 2014.

Unishippers president Kevin Lathrop said: "Our success in serving 50,000 small and medium-sized businesses has been driven by our incredible franchisees, first rate carrier partners and strong executive leadership.

"The recapitalization by Ridgemont will propel the company's growth and ability to expand our current service offering and geographic footprint."

Based in Charlotte of North Carolina, Ridgemont is a middle market buyout and growth equity investor that has invested around $3bn in more than 110 companies.
