DHL appointed as official logistics partner of Messe Frankfurt

DHL’s Trade Fairs and Events division has started using the MetriX Freight volume measurement solutions at the Messe Frankfurt venue.

The MetriX Freight volume measurement solution will facilitate and hasten the dimensioning and registration process of the incoming and outgoing shipments.

The volume measurement solution, which will be used by Metrilus along with DHL Trend Research and DHL Trade Fairs & Events, will work with camera sensors of game consoles manufacturer using 3D camera technology.

DHL Trade Fairs & Events managing director Vincenco Scrudato said: "Prior to the implementation of MetriX Freight within the Cargo Center at Messe Frankfurt all exhibition pieces and freight goods had to be measured manually.

“Both volume and weight are crucial to our customers as they define the calculated rate. Our new digital dimensioning solution significantly improves precision and enables up to six times faster handling of all shipments.”

The height, width and length of a single piece of freight will be measured and documented by three employees, based on its size. Around 750 to 1600 pieces of freight will be shipped every night.

The new solution will reduce the time of dismantling process and will have the ability to ship all freight pieces within less than 24 hours.

Messe Frankfurt division manager logistics Oliver Schell said: "We as Messe Frankfurt are the very first fair venue in Germany having this innovative solution in place. DHL's innovative capacities, which we were able to experience firsthand during our workshop at the DHL Innovation Center in Troisdorf, are a perfect match to our digitization strategy.”

The MetriX Freight solution was designed using a dimensioning algorithm, which was developed by Metrilus in collaboration with DHL Trend Research. The solution will also enable customers receive better quality and efficient services.
